There is a place where the sagas live! Or to say it with Leslie Fish, the famous filk-singer: It’s the “next best thing to old Valhalla.” This is Bork
Vikingehavn museum in Denmark. I know it. I know it for 10 years now and to me it’s defining the term “living history” at it’s best.
Since 2005 we add to the cast as a Viking family every summer, fighting, cooking, working, telling stories and doing all that kind of stuff you would do
in that period. Actually living in the houses is a tremendous experience and surpasses everything in atmosphere I did in my now 20 years of reenactment endeavors - except probably
travelling in a living history way.
With our recent stays and contributions at Bork Viking Market we could rely on our past experiences and contacts: Crafts were refined and projects
finished, new endeavors persued, old friendships renewed and new acquaintances made. There were evenings in the mead hall, fights with old and new comrades, new things to learn and
stories to share. And all in all Thorkild’s greeting words proved true: It was just like a brother coming home...
The video below was made during our stay at Bork in 2008. The photos provide a cross section of activities since 2005.
