Die Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA) ist eine internationale Reenactmentgruppe mit Ursprung in den U.S.A. Mit einer über 20-jährigen Geschichte bietet die
SCA insbesondere
ein sportlich orientiertes Vollkontakt-Kampfsystem, das vom Zweikampf bis zur Massenschlacht mit mehreren hundert Teilnehmern keine Wünsche offen lässt. Sicherlich ist die Verwendung von Rattanstangen als Waffen gerade historisch nicht das Nonplusultra, aber es hat allen anderen Varianten gegenüber auch wesentliche Vorteile, gerade wenn es um Tempo, Krafteinsatz und Massenkämpfe geht, und steht in der Tradition u. a. der Kolbenturniere des ausgehenden Mittelalters.
Übliche SCA-Aktivitäten beinhalten Turniere, Feste, Seminare und
Workshops und vieles mehr. Viele Gruppen halten wöchentliche Treffen ab, bei denen unter anderem historische Tänze, Musik, Theater, Brauen, Bogenschießen, Kalligraphie, Spinnen, historisches Fechten und Reiten, Schmieden und ähnliches geübt und ausgeübt werden.
2010 sind wieder viele SCA-Gruppen in Deutschland “alive and kicking”. Im Ruhrgebiet gründete sich die Gruppe Roterde neu. Weitere Informationen und Kontakt

The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is an
international non-profit educational organisation originating in the United States, providing a background for reenacting pre-Renaissance history. Essential to the SCA is a chivalric sport combat system called Heavy Weapons or Rattan Stick Fighting, where combatants fight with weapons fashioned from rattan, and armour made of metal, hardened leather, and a variety or other materials. Fighters can be matched in duels or mass tournament combats with up to hundreds of combatants. Heavy Weapons combat is competitive and full-contact, with combatants hitting each other with tremendous force. It is a very violent, yet very safe martial art.
Typical SCA activities include tournaments, festivals, classes, feasts... (just to
name a few). Many groups meet weekly, and at these meetings there is period dance, music, theatre, brewing, archery, calligraphy, fencing, spinning, equestrian, smithing and more.
During my active time, the main attraction used to be the yearly Double Wars in Sweden. Now a lot of SCA groups are active in Germany. In the Ruhr area, the
old group of Shire Roterde has been resurrected, with lots of activities to come. More information you can find on the Roterde website.
