2005 sah unseren ersten “Familienurlaub” im Mittelalter. Der Ort war das Bork Vikinhehavn Museum in Dänemark, ein Teil des Skjern-Egvad-Museums, das unter
anderem noch ein belebtes Eisenzeitdorf betreibt. Im Wikingerhafen lebten wir zehn Tage das Leben einer “Wikingerfamilie”, die Tage angefüllt mit Handwerken, Kochen,
Alltagsarbeiten um das Jahr 1000, alles unter den Augen der Besucher. “Tätowieren” für die Kinder der Touristen und Freikampfdemos gehörten mit zu unserem Repertoire.
Während wir einerseits unser Wissen mit anderen teilten und an Besucher weitergaben, lernten wir in der Zeit auch immens viel. Ab 17.00 Uhr gehörte die Anlage dann
praktisch uns. Die Zeit im Museum, in Kontakt mit phantastischen Leuten und eingebettet in die authentische Umgebung, war sicher ein Höhepunkt meiner bisherigen
Unternehmungen... und wird wohl auch nicht ein einmalige Unterfangen bleiben.

The year 2005... our first family holiday in the Middle Ages - as a Viking Family at the Bork Vikingehavn Museum, Denmark. While trips to the Medieval
times in northern Europe had been custom for me for some years before, this was our first try as a family together - and it worked. The Bork Museum is part of the Skjern-Egvad-Museum,
which also features an impressive Iron Age village. As a Viking Family, we stayes for 10 days at the place, busy with crafting, cooking, and managing everyday life unter the eyes of up to
900 visitors a day. Adding to that we offered painted Viking-”Tattoos” for the kids and made demos in free fighting with sword and shield, derived from experience with the Chevalier, the
S.C.A. and the Warriors’ Feast. While sharing our knowledge with the visitors, we ourselves learned an immense lot from the people of the Museum staff. From 17.00 on, the museum with its
longhouses and facilities practically “belonged” to us - a grand site. This time with fantastical reenacting people and authentical period surroundings surely has been a climax in my
living history experiences... and will not be the last of the kind.
